FMG Project, Port Hedland, Total AMS
LDD is pleased to announce it has completed its works at the Port Hedland project site for Western Australian based contractor Total AMS as part of the Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) T155 iron ore expansion. LDD provided specialist relief drilling services for the installation of 125No. 30-38 metre long, 1200mm diameter piles in the construction of a 200 metre long retaining wall. This structure was required to support the embankment of an existing conveyor ensuring that current export outputs are able to be maintained during the T155 port development.
LDD drilling personnel were deployed to Port Hedland for a total of nine weeks, with LDD specialist drilling required for 39 of the piles. Work went well, even though the drill bit required frequent cutter replacements due to the abrasive ground conditions. Having reached the important mile stone of the completion of the wall, FMG have now commenced further dredging works as part of the overall development of the site as planned.
LDD used its LD408 drill rig for this project with great success and the rig is now awaiting utilisation for further works in Western Australia, with the same success predicted.
