STOP PRESS - LDD wins major windpower contract
We are delighted with the news that we have been entrusted by Gwynt Y Mor Offshore Windfarm Limited (GYMOWL) with the provision of pile relief drilling services for their 160 turbine windfarm development offshore North Wales. The GYMOWL partners comprise RWE Npower Renewables, Siemens and Stadtwerke Munchen.
LDD will deliver large diameter drilling services which will provide security of installation for the steel monopile foundations which are up to 6.0m in diameter. The drilling will be performed by the new, LDD designed LD5000 drill rig. The bottom hole assembly will be configured to drill a standard 4.3m diameter rock socket, but socket dimensions can be increased when required up to 6.0m in diameter by engaging the drill bit under-reamers. LDD’s equipment is scheduled for delivery in November 2011, with fieldworks scheduled to take up to 2 years.
The contract will see LDD working with sister company Menck who are providing their MHU1900S piling hammer for the project. The installation vessel will be the client supplied Seabreeze II jack-up platform. This is an exciting development of LDD’s plant holding and a strong statement of our intent to serve the offshore renewables foundation installation market. We very much look forward to working in partnership with GYMOWL and its contractors on the project.
