Hydraulic Release Shackles
LDD Hydraulic Release Shackles range from 35 tonne to over 1000 tonne for both surface and sub-sea operation. For sub-sea application, depths in excess of 2000m can be accommodated. Typically they are used where unhooking the load is not possible or the associated risks and/or costs of unhooking are too great; such as working at height, restrictive access, unsafe environments and deep water depths.
Key Features of LDD Hydraulic Release Shackles:
- 35 tonne to over 1000 tonne.
- Operation to 2000 meters plus.
- Various Hydraulic Power Unit options: electro or diesel, hand operated pump units, mini power units AC or air powered.
- Umbilical options: powered or hand operated reels combined with HPU if required.
- Pressurised accumulator systems for deep water actuation.
- Full ROV intervention options.
- Safety feature to override hydraulic failure for ROV/Diver actuation.
- Completely autonomous operation options.
- Hydraulic actuation retrofit to standard shackles or special build.
- Purchase or rental options available on request.
The LDD Hydraulic Release Shackle consists of two parts:
- The shackle part which can be a standard shackle such as Green Pin, Crosby, Wide body or specialist shape as may be required.
- The hydraulic pin actuation unit which initially inserts and then withdraws the pin from the shackle when the load is released. In basic principal this consists of a hydraulic cylinder and engineered steel fabrication which attaches to the side of the shackle (by mechanical means only) so as not to compromise the integrity of the shackle itself. This is of prime importance ensuring the shackle structure and material are not interfered with in any manner, thus maintaining the shackle load test certificate and safe working load.
LDD can supply the complete Hydraulic Release Shackle or, if the customer prefers, the actual shackle part can be supplied by the customer and sent to us for our attachment of the hydraulic pin actuation unit and conversion into a LDD Hydraulic Release Shackle. Operations and maintenance manual and general assembly and parts drawings are provided.
In their standard form LDD Hydraulic Release Shackles are operated from the surface to a maximum water depth of 300m. Hydraulic system options are provided to best suit the customers needs, costs and application and range from simple hand pump units to comprehensive electro or diesel driven power packs with powered hydraulic umbilical winches.
All LDD Hydraulic Release Shackles feature a manual override option in case of hydraulic failure. ROV back up systems can also be provided.
