2015 Projects Update
It's been an incredibly busy year and wanted to take some time to update you on a few of our project successes for 2015. We hope these projects highlight LDD's ability to provide added value to your projects; either through discrete rental of our world-class equipment and personnel, or under a fully integrated and optimised packaged service. Such integrated packages are developed through careful understanding of your project requirements and collaboration to limit your project risks.
Carbon Black Project, Abu Dhabi UAE
In April this year, LDD returned from its works at the Carbon Black Delayed Coker Project, Abu Dhabi UAE. Piles were required for berthing dolphins and crane rail support structures at the unloading facility. LDD supplied a LD408 drill rig, complete with under-reaming drill bits for the drilled and grouted pile installation, and the rig was operated by LDD’s experienced crews.
Liverpool 2 Container Terminal, UK
LDD has completed its supply of drilling equipment and personnel for the delivery of foundation installation services at Liverpool 2, the new deepwater container terminal for the UK port.
LDD supplied 2 no. drilling rigs and highly skilled supervisors and drilling engineers for the service, including the supply of 1650mm diameter drill bits. LDD also custom-designed and built 1360 to 1800mm under-reamers especially for this project to assist with installation of combi-wall piles using the drive-drill-drive (3D) technique.
Jacket Installation Project, Kitchen Lights, Alaska
This high profile project in the remote region of Alaska required 8 no. piles to be driven to 73m below the mudline, through very unpredictable and challenging geology. LDD supplied one of its LD408 offshore adapted pile top drills from its extensive fleet of RCD drill rigs; equipped with 116m of drill string and an 880mm diameter under-reaming drill bit to act as contingency for any un-expected pile refusal.
LDD had to mobilise at very short notice, providing a swift and professional service to our clients when they needed it most.
Jacket Installation Project, Vega Pleyade Field, Offshore Argentina
LDD provided two complete drill spreads for the installation of a gas jacket in the Vega Pleyade field, 20km offshore Argentina. The jacket foundations consisted of 4 no. 1067mm diameter insert piles which were installed and grouted into an open rock socket drilled to 56m below mudline. LDD supplied its LD2500 and LD818 offshore RCD drill rigs, with additional bespoke designed and built downhole equipment.
To assist the client in removing our works from the critical path and allowing us to progress independently of the vessel’s main crane, LDD’s service included the supply of a separate 40t/m offshore crane for handling our drilling equipment on the temporary work deck.
Riverside Quay Extension, UK
In the UK, LDD provided specialist equipment and personnel for pile installation works on the Riverside Quay (RSQ) Extension Project.
An LDD LD408 rig, equipped with custom built gripper cans (modified to accommodate king post pile clutches), 50m of RCD drill string, and LDD designed and built 914-1220mm and 1050-1400mm under-reaming drill bits were supplied by LDD, along with our expert piling team to safely execute the works. The piles were installed using a drive-drill-drive (3D) installation technique, utilising specialist LDD under-reamers and LDD’s expert pile installation engineering to ensure the optimum volume of material was removed below the toe of the piles to achieve efficient re-drive.
Drilled & grouted Pile Installation, Mine Development, Panama
This project is for an export jetty for the Mina de Cobre Mine Development. This represents our first ‘working together’ project with Acteon sister company, Core Grouting Services.
LDD’s supply includes an LD408 drill rig from our extensive fleet, including custom adaptations for drilling in high-strength igneous rock and one of the latest high-strength grout mixing units available to the market. The high specification grout blend required for the design could not be mixed with standard grout mixing plant. The equipment supplied by Core met with this specification and was delivered to Panama to meet our Client’s programme.
LDD is currently working with clients on two other exciting opportunities for 2016 which we hope to report in the New Year.
At LDD, we continuously work hard to ensure our clients’ requirements are met to the highest standards through a collaborative working style and seeking to understand their project challenges and the required solutions.
