Welcome to LDD's annual newsletter. We would like to wish all our customers and clients, old and new, a wonderful 2016 and thank you for your support in 2015.
LDD Leading by Design in 2015
2015 has been a challenging year, with a limited number of projects coming online and those that have proceeded have had a sharp focus on costs. For a ‘value & solutions’ driven business like LDD, this has meant that we have had to explore alternative ways of working with our clients to provide something different or in a more efficient way. The present market conditions, we believe, require a more collaborative, partnering approach between supply chain and client, in order to drive different ways of doing things with a reduced cost base and added value. In doing this, we have together achieved great success with some clients.
This approach has enabled us to maintain our equipment utilisation at “normal” utilisation levels and you can read more about some of these successes by following the 2015 Projects Updates Link.
We have also secured a major project which has kept our Design and Engineering Department busy since June and will see our Operations teams busy through much of 2016.
Design & Engineering for Offshore Wind Farm Pre-piling Template
LDD was approached a leading Offshore Renewables contractor, seeking the supply of a ‘Smart’ Sub-sea Pre-Piling Template for their 2016 Wind Farm Project. The template would require accurate positioning and control of driven piles for a significant number of jacket foundations to very tight tolerances whilst maintaining robust reliability over the whole installation programme.
One of LDD’s strengths lies with its fast track, innovative and solutions led engineering capability and ability to manage the whole supply chain to deliver world-class equipment within tight time- frames. All this being done whilst ensuring the equipment delivers, from the first time in the field, until the completion of the whole installation schedule. One example of this capability was the development of our LD5000 drill rig and 4.3m to 6.0m under reaming drill bit for the Gwynt y Mor Project for RWE.
In a collaborative partnership making best use of our client’s own fabrication facilities, LDD focussed on the design of the piling template and the design, procurement and commissioning of the highly complex control systems required for the template and integration with subsea survey and metrology. Our Client would undertake the fabrication of the steel assemblies in his own facility to LDD’s design, whilst we would work together on the assembly and commissioning of the completed frame. The design works (fully approved & certified by DNV) are nearly complete and we will be assembling and commissioning the frame with our Client during Q1 2016. We look forward to being in the field in Spring 2016 and reporting more about this project then.
L M Handling Equipment Supply
We have also been busy supporting our Sister Company LM Handling with the supply of 2 No. in-house designed 30 -60 inch ILTs and 20 No. subsea hydraulic release shackles, ranging from 200 – 400 tonnes capacity. The ILTs, with full DNV design approval, have complemented LM Handling’s existing range which has also been improved by LDD Engineering using our vast wealth of design and marine lifting and handling operational expertise. This equipment was successfully deployed on several projects during 2015 and further orders are in the pipeline for 2016. LDD looks forward to working with LM Handling and supporting them with their design, engineering and equipment needs through 2016.
Kerrek House – A new Home
During 2015, LDD moved into its new, state of the art, office and workshop complex, at Tolvaddon Energy Park in Cornwall. The 2,000 sqm building has a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating and provides the facilities that we will require immediately to support our growth as a world leading foundation installation provider.
The building, named Kerrek House, was occupied in May 2015. Further testament to the LDD team, the move was facilitated with minimum down-time and with no impact to our international and domestic business.
Health & Safety
LDD and all of our crews take personal responsibility for ensuring the safety of the site and setting high standards for the rest of the industry.
Our clients often comment on the levels of safety we attain and we are proud to be able to report that we have maintained our zero LTI performance since LDD was founded and started up in 2007.
