LDD successfully provided our client with a fully managed integrated piling service, installing 172 No. vertical and inclined piles for an export terminal at the Cerrejon Mine, Colombia.
In Colombia the LDD team worked effectively to supply our client with a fully integrated piling solution. We provided a comprehensive spread of marine equipment and a specialist integrated crew for all operations; this offered the project the benefits of an ‘all-inclusive’ service with our long-standing expertise in nearshore jetty construction.
The equipment spread included;
In total, 19 personnel worked closely with the client, managing the operation of equipment and co-ordination of the project to ensure successful installation of foundations.
Due to the remoteness of the location and to keep delays to a minimum for the client, LDD executed mobilisation of the piling spread in Trinidad and towed 285 nautical miles to Puerto Bolivar. This was the first mobilisation of its type seen in Trinidad and our team worked closely with the local authorities to ensure this was as effective as possible.
The tow itself was a success, taking a total of 5 days and ensuring the complexities of importing equipment into Colombia were greatly reduced for the client.
On-site operations were also required not disrupt normal port operations; this included ongoing 180,000 DWT vessel movements in close proximity to the works. The site issue was managed effectively by the experience that the LDD project team was able to bring to the operation.
